Last weekend saw not just the beginning of the second cycle of Carnage Pro League, but the Amateurs were called to arms once more. Now that the two strongest teams of last cycle moved up to the Pro Division, all the other strong teams were eager to prove that they can do the same, win an Amateur Open or two and impress the other teams. And all the while the teams were looking forward to great practice for the upcoming HoN Tour Season 3.

Fight To The Top

Several strong teams made an entrance for this tournament. First and foremost were [MOE]Moes Tavern, the reigning Amateur Open Champs who nearly made it to the Pro Division. Only one mistake was enough to destroy their pro dreams two weeks ago, but now they are back and eager to cause opposing teams some nightmares. [TF]Twisted Fuzion came back from their hibernation, after a long break they decided to give it a go here again to get practice for HoN Tour and maybe score enough points to have a chance at some money in four weeks. [ddww]Dont die we win, previously known as [dawn]dawn, [YLTP]You Love To Party, [Sun]The Solaire Club and [PpM]PepsiMaX all entered the tournament too. Each of these teams fell short in the first cycle, but along with [CzSk]The Tyrants they would show off their experience in a new set of Opens. These teams and many others gave the World Cup a laugh and battled for gold and points on throughout the weekend.

The first four rounds on Saturday held a few surprises. After the first round was mostly skipped due to forfeits, all the bigger teams also passed the second round without much of a problem, only [iRex]Instant Reflex were unable to play and had to give up a forfeit win. Round 3 was where it got interesting;Twisted Fuzion and You Love To Party met up in this round, and both of these strong teams desired to make up for past failures and inactivity with a win here. Twisted Fuzion apparently made it out of hibernation in a better condition and they won this match 1-0, advancing to the next round. ddww also had a bit of work ahead of them, as their opponent was [BURR]burrito gaming, a team that had been displaying some eagerness in recent weeks with good showings in both Weekly Cups and the Amateur Opens. It was not enough on that day though, as ddww made it through the game and won with 1-0. Moving on to the fourth round, more interesting matches were scheduled. Moes Tavern finally had a challenge, Twisted Fuzion was next and here experience and practice triumphed over rest and relaxation - Moes Tavern won 1-0. Further down the bracket The Solaire Club had no problems with [StSS]StaySerious and The Tyrants kicked PepsiMaX out of the tournament.


Top Dogs In The Final Four

The semi-finals promised plenty of action and entertainment as Moes Tavern took on ddww and The Solaire Club welcomed The Tyrants. And both match-ups went all three maps. Moes Tavern had faced ddqq, or dawn as they were known then, twice before in the Amateur Opens and both times it ended 2:1 in favor of Moes Tavern. This weekend was no exception, ddww won a game but it was not enough to defeat the current biggest dog in the tournament; the match ended 2-1 once more.

Sun and CzSK had plenty of fun in their match as well. The two teams played against each other for the first time in the Carnage in Caldavar event, and both teams won one game before the final match had to be played. In the end it was the Solaire Club who came out ahead; their competitive experience and better team play made the difference here. The finals between Moes Tavern and The Solaire Club was exciting too, but it only two games to find a winner. Moes Tavern was simply too strong and experienced for The Solaire Club, and while they did improve over the last few weeks, it was not enough to win the games on Sunday. 2-0 was the end result and Moes Tavern the Champions of the Amateur Open #1 in Cycle 2 of Carnage in Caldavar.
